SmartList™ Web Application Services

A Complete Web Solution

Easy to use, effective and inexpensive

SmartList™ was developed as an inexpensive but complete Web solution that niche-market entrepreneurs could offer to merchants in their areas of interest. The application allows merchants to take advantage of a variety of Web venues to sell merchandise and incorporate their administration into a single package. The result is an easy to use, low cost e-commerce solution that maximizes inventory exposure.

Web Site and Inventory PLUS Central-Marketplace

SmartList™ integrates an editable Web site with a self-maintaining, displayable inventory and a “central-marketplace” specialty site. Both are optionally linked to online auctions. The program consists of two main parts: The Web site and the Visual Catalog. The primary difference between them is their orientation. The Web site is merchant oriented, that is, only the merchant’s inventory is available, while the Visual Catalog is merchandise oriented and, in its normal (central-marketplace) display mode, shows items from more than one merchant. The Web site’s initial display is a list format and items may or may not be accompanied by images. The Visual Catalog’s initial display is a thumbnail image format. Images are required on the Visual Catalog but optional on the Web site.

Ideal for any Niche-Market

SmartList™ can be customized for any niche-market and is licensed to a SmartList™ “Operator.” The Operator can then offer the package to merchants on a subscription basis. Once configured and launched, the program is virtually self-running, although Operators can control all aspects of client activities with SmartList’s system administration console.

More than just a Web Site

Automatically-created Web Site & Inventory Management System

During SmartList™ Sign Up, a Web site home page is automatically created from information and images supplied by the subscriber, using a simple “fill in the blanks” online form. As inventory is added, appropriate category links automatically appear on the merchant’s Home page.  The public sees the inventory as interactive, sortable lists and can view detailed information about individual items by selecting the item.

Your own online Control Center

SmartList™ includes a secure and private administrative program, SmartList™ Manager.  All housekeeping functions including adding, editing, deleting items from SmartList™, adding the PayPal payment method and linking to on-line auctions are done here. In addition, one can edit Visual Catalog entries or delete items from both programs simultaneously.

Items without images are added directly to the SmartList™ inventory. Items with images are entered on the Visual Catalog first and can be immediately shared with the SmartList™ inventory using the “Find it” button that provides for the automatic copying of item data into a SmartList™ entry.

Loaded with Features and Flexibility

SmartList™ Manager also permits merchants to edit the text and images on their Home page or add or delete their auction affiliations at any time. It includes the ability to automatically link to on-line auction programs simply by logging in the merchant’s ID. Automatically generated image links allow merchants to show their on-line auctions to their Web site and Visual Catalog visitors and, in turn, show their entire inventory to their auction visitors.

Enhance your Auction Results

SmartList’s “Auction Ad Creator” provides the merchant with an automatically created, editable and professionally formatted auction display ad constructed from SmartList™ item data. It includes the merchant’s home page logo and shipping policies as well as links to his Web site and Visual Catalog. If an item is linked to an online auction, an appropriate image link is automatically displayed and bids may be placed directly from the Web site or Visual Catalog item display. In addition, image links are provided for placement anywhere on the Web.

The Visual Catalog

Whatever catches your eye

On the Web, a good image can make the difference between getting the sale or not. SmartList’s Visual Catalog program lets merchants create display ads with images. The catalog is presented as a series of thumbnail images, eight to a page, with truncated descriptions and a navigation bar. This “browse” feature allows rapid evaluation of items and has proven to be more compelling to view than a text-only list of items. The experience brings the user closer to the “live” experience of looking at merchandise where his interest is piqued by whatever "catches his eye." Clicking on an image thumbnail or a “View Description” hyperlink displays a full screen description of the item with a 320 pixel wide image along with associated e-commerce links.

Zero in on exactly what you’re looking for

Items can be viewed in chronological order, by category or by specific characteristics common to that category. Users can also search by key words that may be found in an ad’s description or for a specific merchant’s name.

Easily upload your text and images

Merchants enter their items in the Visual Catalog using a “fill in the blanks” online form. During ad creation, the Visual Catalog program transfers the item’s image from the merchant’s computer to the SmartList™ server where the image is automatically resized, duplicated and stored. The program simultaneously creates a physically lighter large image as well as a thumbnail image.

Your own “Private Catalog”

A powerful feature of the Visual Catalog is each merchant’s “Exclusive Link”.  This automatically creates a private catalog of the individual merchant’s material.  The catalog is labeled with the merchant’s name and has a special sidebar menu providing access to only his material. The “Exclusive Link” is generically available on a SmartList™ Web site and can be placed anywhere the merchant has access, including on-line auction sites.

Getting paid is easy

When a merchant creates a Visual Catalog ad, he has the option of signing up for PayPal, an online payment method that has gained great acceptance in the online community. Those with an existing account simply type in their user ID and the appropriate PayPal code and icon is automatically appended to the bottom of the ad description.  If the ad is shared in the SmartList™ inventory, the PayPal code will exist there too.
