"Living Stones" by Marcus Uzilevsky

A Signed Original Linear Landscape

Living Stones (1981) by Marcus Uzilevsky (1937 - ). Born to Russian and Polish immigrant parents and trained as an illustrator, Uzilevsky was originally a commercial artist, but found that work unfulfilling. A graduate of the New York School of Art and Design, he went on to successful careers in both music and art. The recipient of many awards and commissions over the years, his work is represented in the permanent collections of over 25 museums and in prominent private and corporate collections nationwide.

This is the type of art Uzilevsky is most famous for, a linear landscape, done with pencil in a range of colors from mauve/purple through shades of blue and gray to gold, yellow and brown. A study of line and structure, this almost impressionistic landscape is masterfully and vividly portrayed by the artist, using his technique of drawing many lines of different colors across the paper. Mr. Uzilevsky is world renowned for this technique, building layers upon layers of straight lines with varying spacing between, creating tones of color and image in the process. This method produces powerful results. Living Stones, one of Uzilevsky's artful expressions of mountains, sea and sky, readily evokes a sense of serenity in the viewer.

Signed by the artist, this 38" x 26" work (47" x 35" w/ frame) was purchased at the San Francisco Art Expo, 1982. It has been in a private East Coast collection for the past 20 years.
